About Our Group


Welcome to the academic website of  YONG ZHANG LAB!

Our team is named SPIRE, which stands for Scalable Photovoltaic Innovation for Renewable Energy (SPIRE). The research interests of our group focus on the Optoelectronic materials and photovoltaic devices, mainly including the following aspects.
(1)  Perovskite microcrystals synthesis; 
(2)  Perovskite solar cells;  
(3)  Large area perovskite solar cell module;  
(4)  Device physics simulation;  
(5)  Wearable optoelectronic devices in several aspects.

Our PI is Professor Zhang Yong. He is an Assistant Professor in the Sustainable Energy and Environment Thrust at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He received his Ph.D. degree from School of Chemical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea in 2020, under the supervision of Professor Nam-Gyu Park. Before his current position, Dr. Zhang served as a Presidential Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Assistant Professor (Associate Researcher) at the Southern University of Science and Technology. His research focuses optoelectronic materials and devices, particularly perovskite solar cells. Dr. Zhang has published 66 peer-reviewed papers, including 28 as (co-)first or corresponding author in top journals such as Nature(2), Science, Nature Materials, Nature Energy, Nature Synthesis, Energy & Environmental Science, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, Advanced Energy Materials, and ACS Energy Letters, with over 4400 citations. He has received several awards, including the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad (2021), Shenzhen Overseas High-Caliber Personnel (Level B), and the SUSTech Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021). He also serves as a Young Editorial Board Member for the journals eScience and Energy Materials.
